Prevention and Cure For Diaper Rash-Related Disasters

All babies are born with soft, supple skin and during the first year, babies are prone to rashes and allergies. Kissing a baby on the cheek can lead to skin redness and bumps especially when one has stubbles on the face. It can prick the baby's skin and rashes will surely appear. Saliva can also cause rashes in babies since adult saliva has compounds that can irritate babies' skin.

Another source of skin irritation is stool and urine left in unchanged diapers. These are the most common culprits of rashes for babies. No matter what you do, one way or the other, your baby will experience having rashes during his or her early months. Usually, rashes are noticeable as skin redness and itching in the buttocks area and if left untreated, can even turn into severe skin irritation. This will make your baby more cranky than usual as it can disturb your baby's sleeping pattern and other routines. There are several ways to protect your baby from irritation and prevent discomfort.

First is to use baby powder every time you change your baby's diapers. Although disposable diapers are absorbent enough, if you want to give your baby that extra comfortable feeling, then sprinkle some baby powder in the diaper (buttocks area), but avoid putting powder on the baby's genitals. Powders help protect the buttocks area by keeping it dry, thus, possibility of bacteria-growth that could lead to rashes is minimized. Likewise, avoid incidences where your baby accidentally sniffs the powder as this can irritate the baby's lungs.

Another way to prevent or care for diaper rash is through the use of specially formulated rash creams for babies. These creams are effective at preventing rashes from occurring and when applied at the onset of a diaper rash outbreak, they encourage rapid healing of your baby's skin. The cream formulation, when applied onto your baby's skin, does not leave a sticky, icky feeling for your baby. Thus, your baby remains comfortable and fresh.

Lastly, if you're travelling with your baby and you need to change diapers on the way, ensure to bring baby wet wipes that are especially made for baby use. These protect and effectively clean your baby's private areas without the accompanying irritating smell and chemical formulation.

In the end, you are still the best judge to determine the best product to use for your baby's skin. Be mindful of how your baby's skin reacts to anything you put on it. Any signs of redness or cranky behavior from your baby (which is out of the ordinary) should already be a red flag telling you that something is wrong.
